Research Activities:

in vivo models assessing the mechanisms by which imbalanced STAT1 and STAT3 signalling from the IL-6 cytokine family common receptor gp130 contribute to inflammation, tumourigenesis, dysregulated lympho-hematopoiesis and bone metabolism

Techniques/Expertise:

Gene targeting
Mammalian cell culture techniques
Immuno-detection techniques (eg.
immunohistochemistry, ELISA, Western blotting, flow cytometry)
Quantitative RT-PCR
analysis

Collaborations:

Simon Jones/Nicholas Topley (Cardiff, UK)
Andrew Robers (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Melbourne)
Matthias Ernst (Ludwig, Melbourne)
Robyn Starr (St Vincents Institute, Melbourne)
Matthew Gillespie and Jack Martin (St Vincents Institute, Melbourne)
Jane Armes
(Mater Hospital, Brisbane)

Animal Disease Models:

Inflammation (peritonitis, endotoxic shock)
Gastric cancer
Hematopoietic
(spenomegaly, thrombocytosis) and lymphoid (lymphadenopathy) disorders
Dysregulated bone metabolism

Genetically Modified Animals:

gp130 knock-in mouse mutants crossed with STAT1/3, IL-6 and IL-11R KO mice

Lab Group Personnel:

2 Research Assistants and 1 UROP student
